As Elizabeth came into power, she found an admiration for Greek and Roman architecture. This love turned England's classic Gothic style to Renaissance style. The ideas of the Renaissance style expressed symmetry. Elizabeth recognized this symmetry as order and harmony. These ideas engendered the motifs of sunlight and air circulation. When Elizabeth came into power she was left with King Henry VIII's debts. Although as her reign progressed, she revived the economy and was able to bring the Italian Renaissance to England. Elizabeth first experienced this architecture from Inigo Jones. Jones was asked by Henry, the Prince of Wales, to design in Greenwich, the Queens house. His work and design clearly represented the assimilation of Renaissance architecture and hooked the attention of other. People repeated the techniques and designs used by Jones and eventually Elizabeth came to adore the architect and make it the main architectural style of England.
